First things first!

Product management is hard! No sugar coating! Straight truth! Okay, I said it!

But it is also a very very rewarding career for people who are in it (surely not for everyone)But once you do decide that you want a career in #productmanagement

Here are a few things that will get you thinking like a PM in no time!

You can do these things with a timer and spend no more than 20 minutes but with discipline, every day, and I can guarantee you it will help you break into PM and any course you take will make a lot more sense!

#1 — Spend 7 mins a day reading a Product management blog/ newsletter.

  • Be mindful in subscribing to newsletters and blogs! Follow PM content creators for the subjects they talk about (for their subject matter expertise). The goal is to diversify your reading generalist vs specialist.

#2 — Pick products of your liking (new products), Websites, or Mobile apps. Spend the remaining 13 minutes analyzing these apps.

Few starter questions you could be asking —

  • Who is the target audience?
  • How difficult or easy was their onboarding? (how quickly you get in the product and start using it?
  • What does their business model look like? (offering freemium service, subscriptions, one-time purchase, free, etc)
  • Any unique features?
  • Also one another key question is would you use the app? Some products solve specific needs immediately and some are simply…. not intuitive enough. So if you wouldn’t use the app? go back to the first question — did they solve the need for their target audience?

This exercise alone does wonders. If you do try, let me know how it goes. I would love to hear your thoughts!
